Amazon.com:
Standing out in the crowded field of screen adaptations of the classic Dickens novel A Christmas Carol is hard to do, but this version pulls it off. When a transparent Jacob Marley walks through Ebenezer Scrooge's apartment door, you know you're seeing something both timeless and contemporary. Other strategically placed special effects--a funnel cloud that transports Scrooge and the ghost of Christmas present, the hollow specter of Christmas future--keep you riveted without slipping into anachronism.

But, as good as the technology is, the performances are what really power this 93-minute TNT interpretation. Patrick Stewart brings a depth to Scrooge that allows the character to go beyond the cartoonish qualities that have made him a Christmas mainstay. That doesn't mean he's any less heartless with his hapless employee Bob Cratchit (Richard E. Grant) or any less dismissive of his well-meaning nephew. A frail-looking Joel Grey makes an excellent ghost of Christmas past, and a superb British cast ably fill the remaining roles.

Director David Jones, shooting on location in England and at London's Ealing Studios, has achieved a balance of science and sentiment that will help this version hold up for many years to come. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Another Retelling?
I was leery of another retelling of a classic that i have enjoyed on the stage and yet I was stunned by what i saw.

Patrick Stewart IS Scrooge, his long time experience in a one man show has perfected his Scrooge down to the gruff bah humbug and the rusty old man cackle. Pure Enjoyment is as close to how i feel about this movie.

Not since the theater days have i found a Scrooge worthy of the part and here is one that shines above all others.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Patrick Stewart Shines
Patrick Stewart shines in this faithful adaptation of the Dickson's classic. Stewart has a great supporting cast, especially in Bob Cratchit and family. But for the multi-talented Stewart, this is a tour-de-force. Whether you're a Patrick Stewart fan (and who isn't?) or a Christmas Carol fan, this movie is a must.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart as Scrooge
I have been a fan of the Alastair Sim 1951 version of A Christmas Carol for many years. It is a family tradition to watch it on Christmas Eve to get in the 'spirit'. I decided to purchase the Patrick Stewart 1999 version just to see if the movie could have been improved upon. IT HAS!!
I like the concept of a younger Scrooge who really has a chance to improve his life and the lives of those around him through learning the meaning of Christmas simply because he will have more time to do ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A Great Version!
In my opinion, after the 1951 Alistair Sim version, this is next one of the best interpretations of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." Patrick Stewart plays a wonderful Ebeneezer Scrooge, and the supporting cast is equally good. A "must have" for the true "A Christmas Carol" connoisseur.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Christmas
In comparsion to the Alastair Sim & George C.Scott's versions of this Classic Christmas Movie this only has clever special effects with good not excellant acting .
