Larry Payne, a Ph.D. and Los Angeles-based yoga teacher, has put together a yoga program that lives up to its title. Power yoga this ain't; rather than touting the virtues of yoga as aerobic, strength-building exercise, User Friendly Yoga presents it primarily as a tool for stress and tension reduction, incorporating simple forward bends, backbends, standing poses, twists, and various stretching and balancing poses in a gentle, easy-to-follow sequence designed for those who are new to the discipline (with slightly more difficult variations demonstrated for more advanced users). Payne is a soothing, nurturing presence, constantly emphasizing the importance of the breath and the personal, noncompetitive aspects of yoga ('challenge yourself, don't strain yourself' is one of his mantras). He even suggests watching the 30-minute program all the way through once before trying the poses. I love this video. The instruction and methods are gentle and encouraging and are an excellent practice for a beginner or for one who is returning to a yoga practice. This is also excellent to use for a relaxation with yoga program. Larry Payne is an excellent teacher/demonstrator and the quality of this video is excellent- visual and sound. Highly recommended by this yoga student!

I own over 40 yoga videos and this is my absolute favorite. Larry Payne is by far the best teacher.

I found this video to be especially helpful at teaching the basic poses, with an ability to extend yourself more if you choose to. Larry Payne has a very calming voice, and his instructions are specific and easy to follow. A great way to wake up in the morning to get the body going, or before bed to sleep deeply. A wonderful yoga video for any level!

I have many Yoga videos by different instructors but since purchasing this video I have no desire to use the others. I find Larry Payne undoubtedly the best teacher. His instructions are told simply in a relaxing voice and the dynamic and static way of doing the poses is excellent. I also love the fact that there is no time wasted at the beginning of the video waiting for adverts to come to an end - Larry Payne goes straight to work. This is a 30 minute video in two segments of 15 minutes. The first segment is standing poses followed by a relaxation pose. The second segment is floor poses followed by a relaxation pose. The setting is outside, near a lovely pool with hills in the background. I enjoy this video after strenuous exercise, particularly the standing poses which have good stretch sequences.
