Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: Strength, endurance, and good form come together in the Firm's Firm Basics: Sculpting with Weights. This informative workout packs 43 minutes of sweat-producing weightlifting, coupled with aerobic intervals. Instructor Tracie Long is inspirational as she demystifies strength training and body alignment throughout this total body workout. The major muscles of the upper and lower body are trained with lunges, pushups, and a variety of standards that pack fat-burning potential. These exercises are basic in application but still deliver a challenging interval session. Low-impact aerobics segments are simply choreographed and spliced between weightlifting sets. This combination of aerobic and anaerobic exercise creates a program that encourages both power and stamina. The cueing is concise and informative with tips on body alignment playing an important role. All participants will need hand weights, a step, and a dowel (a broom will work great) to perform this workout. Because the choreography is very basic, this is an ideal program for the first-time exerciser; however, more advanced fitness buffs will also find a relevant program that will deliver an effective sweat-packed session (just increase your hand-weight size with your skill level). --Olivia Voigts

Rating: - Great for weight-traning beginners
Tracie Long is a great instructor, always demonstrating proper form, and is easy to follow. I use the "Firm Basics" series along with Leslie Sansone to get started exercising again after being inactive for a while. This tape is for beginners, and those who find the new "Firm" workouts beyond their capabilties. A great start to better fitnes.
This series is not produced on DVD. It would be great if it was.
Rating: - If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would
This is, by far, the best "beginners" video I have ever done. I am a HUGE fan of the FIRM workouts; their approach is based on science, they have a diverse selection (I own over 30 FIRM videos and DVDs), their instructors know what they're doing, and most of all, THEY WORK. These workouts, combined with the sensible FIRM eating plan (it is NOT a diet, but a practical plan based on the food pyramid) helped me quit smoking without gaining a pound...in fact, I lost weight and was in the best shape of ... Rating: - this is an excellent workout
it was my first firm workout, and has been my springboard and the one i come back to since i bought it in 1997. Tracie Long is such an excellent enthusiastic instructor, and she was so gracious to me as i was babbling that to her on the FitPrime website that i still cant help talking her up. good luck to her and the Fitprime series as i read on this site sounds like another wonderful workout that i do intend to add to my collection at some point. the other Firm videos, The Tortoise and the Hare and ... Rating: - Too much lecturing
The workout is great, but you have to listen or fast-forward to it.
Rating: - Good Woorkout for Beginners
This is the first Firm tape that I have tried. I'm from Canada and I don't see the tapes in the stores here, and this one was in the library. I am an intermediate exerciser but this was the only Firm tape there. I really enjoyed this tape, but it is SO different from any other exercise tape that I have tried. I am used to Kathy Smith and Minna Lessig, so I was really surprised by Tracy Long's style, and the style of the video in general. I found it funny that they were in this pseudo-fancy studio ...
