Rating: - Curly's Last Hurrah
"Three Little Pirates" (1946) makes this particular Stooge compilation worth having. Despite ill health, Curly delivers his last classic performance - highlighted by the famous "Maha-Aha" routine. The remaining shorts pale by comparison. "Uncivil Warbirds" (1946) is a dreadful Civil War spoof with no laughs. However, "Back to the Woods" (1937) has Moe, Larry and Curly gaining extra comic mileage from decidedly thin material. The overall print quality is good, but Columbia should have provided a decent ... Read More
Rating: - Not one of the better Stooges tapes
Man I've been a stooges fan since I was 12 years old and I am still to this day. THREE LITTLE PIRATES (1946) One of the best stooge shorts even though Curly was ill during the time but he gives his last great performance and the Majah routine is a routine, but the stooges next short is when Curly suffers a major stroke, the best short on this tape.
UNCIVIL WARBIRDS (1946) The stooges are in love with the girls but they ended up going to the Civil War, Curly is on the oppisite ... Read More
Rating: - Interesting collection.
This is a pretty good tape, with two good shorts, to one bad one. THREE LITTLE PIRATES, great short, and the best of these three. Curly was sick at the time, and here he gives his last great performance. Curly has a serious stroke on the set of the next short, HALF-WITS HOLIDAY. UNCIVIL WARBIRDS: A pretty good short. Again, Curly is sick at the time. The title, however, is too similar to UNCIVIL WARRIORS. BACK TO THE WOODS is a bomb. Too slow. The other two shorts here are okay, though.
Rating: - THREE LITTLE UNCIVIL PIRATES IN THE WOODS
THREE LITTLE PIRATES (1946) - A great short. Well written and directed, and the real highlight is Curly - despite his health at the time, he gives in one of his best performances, and he's pure gold during the classic "Maha" scene.
UNCIVIL WAR BIRDS (1946) - Not a bad short. Interesting casting the boys during the Civil War. The title could've been better. Too similar to 1935's UNCIVIL WARRIORS.
BACK TO THE WOODS (1937) - This one is very slow. The first half really drags and the ... Read More
Rating: - Not a bad tape
In "Three Little Pirates" (1946), the boys are sailors captured and held captive by the evil governor (Vernon Dent) of Dead Man's Island. With the help of Rita (Christine McIntyre), they escape and make it to Black Louie's tavern. There, Curly is entered into a knife-throwing contest during which the Stooges end up fighting a band of pirates. They win the day and take their leave.
This short, despite Curly's illness, was one of the better entries in the series, and one of the best made by director ... Read More
