Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Powerful, Disturbing and Thought-Provoking
This is easily one of the most powerful films I have ever seen in my life. I rented it without knowing a thing about it, and was absolutely knocked out the first time I saw it. I plunked down the rather high purchase price immediately, and felt that it was worth every penny. Since then I have watched it a dozen times, and have shown it to many friends, virtually all of who were as moved as I was. It is not for the squeamish, and should only be viewed by those who like their drama earthy, raw ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - An excellent disturbing movie.
This is a movie that is very easy to misread. Other reveiwers have gone over the plot--but the plot is misleading. The movie is not "approving" of the film maker's abuse of the boy but showing the difficult situation and how it perpetuates itself. A fascinating character study that is not at all P.C. It was made for a low budget but I think that lends to it's rough, difficult subject matter. The film rings very true for me. It lingers and disturbs well after the movie is over.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - FROM ONE ABUSER TO ANOTHER.
"Abuse" concerns a film student named Larry who is currently working on a film about child abuse. While he is working on his project, Larry receives a call from a friend of his who works in a hospital. A 14 year old boy named Thomas has just been admitted and has apparent signs of abuse. Larry rushes over to the hospital in hopes of finding good material to include in his movie. Through a series of events, Thomas calls Larry and sets up a meeting place where they can talk.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Mediocre acting, but original and daring
Fourteen year old Thomas (Raphael Sbarge) is brutally abused by his parents but manages to find comfort in associating with a gay film director who is making a documentary on physical child abuse. As the relationship deepens, the two falling in love, the elder is forced to make a decision: runaway with Thomas or focus on his career and let the boy possibly be beaten to death. This somewhat B-ish film suffers from mediocre acting but is certainly original and daring.
