Editorial Review:

Description:
He was 98lbs of pure nerd until he fell into a barrel of Toxic waste and transformed into a hideously deformed creature of superhuman size and strength! In 1985, The Toxic Avenger opened in one NYC movie theater but just a few short years later, Toxie would become a household name! Up in the superheroic stratosphere with characters as eclectic as Swamp Thing, Spidey, and the Incredible Hulk, The Toxic Avenger endures till this day! Through three smash hit sequels, a children’s cartoon show, lines of comics, toys, public appearances and even his own Nintendo video game, Toxie has been the creature on the scene! From the NY Times to Ralph Nader’s presidential campaign, and beyond, few figures receive as much adoration as the Toxic Avenger, and this wacky, violent and hilarious movie started it all! The DVD release includes tons of tromatic extras, including lost scenes, an interactive tour of Troma Studios and an audio-commentary track from Troma president and creator of the Toxic Avenger, Lloyd Kaufman! The toxic Avenger is presented uncut and uncensored, featuring the full head-crushing scene!

Amazon.com:
The most widely known of Troma Films' stable of low-budget exploitation, The Toxic Avenger is an exuberantly crude poke at superheroes and monster movies, delivered with a healthy dose of cheap gags, splattery special effects, and T&A. It's also a genuinely funny film, and its no-holds-barred attitude has a grubby charm that eludes most gross-out comedies. The Toxic Avenger opens with an absurdly vicious crew preying upon Melvin, a nebbishy janitor. Their pranks land him in a vat of chemical waste, which transforms him into a lumpy monster that deals out gruesome revenge. Directors (and Troma company heads) Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz aim low in detailing 'Toxie's' vengeance spree, and the subsequent carnage should please gorehounds. But they're also savvy enough recognize the film's limitations, and wisely camp things with plenty of slapstick. The result is a frantic and funny mess that should amuse even the most dour cult movie fan. --Paul Gaita

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Definately worth your time.
After hearing for so many years about The Toxic Avenger, I made it my mission in life to hunt this movie down. I spent a lot of time at the local Hastings looking for it, but it seems big companies have a thing against Troma films. Hm, I wonder why.
This search continued for many years, and finally when I was about to give up, the Heaven's blessed me. Kind of. I was looking around in the store and decided to look up TTA in their computer system. To my luck, it said the store had one copy of ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Only In Tromaville Can You Get Away With Murder In Public
It's pretty tame by today's standards, but the Toxic Avenger is still one of the best movies of the gore/horror genre that you can find today. In it's day, it had some pretty shocking scenes. How far have when come in society that it doesn't even phase me to see a kid getting his head run over by a car? That is only one of the many scenes that are very memorable from this movie. In the world of many superheroes, there is only one Toxic Avenger, a hero that can kill people and be cheered instead of ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A Tad Too Toxic
This was A pretty good B horror film, some decent laughs, clever moments, and good special effects(Especially The Transformation Scene). The only thing was,it was A little too gory.If you can get past the excessive gore, you'll like this movie. But if your squimish, this film isnt for you.For me A big plus,of this movie was the bizarre romance between the hero and A pretty, blind girl he rescues.3 stars, only because of too much gore.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - "Skippy, don't forget your helmet!"
As a huge fan of goofy, campy, and frequently ultraviolent b-movies such as 'Pink Flamingos' and 'Street Trash', it goes without saying that I loved 'The Toxic Avenger.' So much of it defies good taste that it makes the movie more laugh-out-loud hilarious than it already is. And there is much to laugh at.

The story revolves around a Mama's-Boy 80s nerd named Melvin Ferd (Mark Torgl), who is the brunt of mockery and practical jokes around the Tromaville Health Club where he works, especially ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - THE KING OF B-MOVIES!
I rented the toxic avenger when it came out in the mid 80s, i was about 9 or 10 years old, i was sitting on the couch watching it and when the part when the car hit the kid on the bike i laughed so hard, my mom came in and seen what i was watching and made me turn it off and return the tape back to the video store, the next day i went back and rented it again!
This movie made me realize what kind of humor i have, and now im 31 yrs old and have a ton of b-movies in my collection...and it was all from ... Read More
