The seven-and-a-half-minute animated title sequence for the 1963 feature film The Pink Panther was such a success that it spawned a very popular cartoon series. This marvelous collection of eight DePatie-Freleng classics comes to DVD as a companion to four of the Pink Panther films. Included is the very first short, 'The Pink Pfink,' which won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Subject in 1964. With its minimalist design and cool attitude, the Pink Panther became a Saturday morning phenomenon. With more than 175 shorts to choose from, too bad this collection is so sparse. Also, it would've been nice if some of the color elements had been restored. They're a little too pink at times. --Bill Desowitz

It's amazing sometimes when you grow up and then look back at some of the things that you really enjoyed when you were a kid and then realise that they weren't quite as great as you thought. This collection of cartoons with the exception of one really funny one doesn't age well at all. The short duration of less than an hour notwithstanding, with the notable exception of "Little Beaux Pink" which was hilarious and was by far the best cartoon of the lot, the rest were pretty mediocre for a number ... I am achild of the 60's and truly enjoyed this DVD it brought back fon memories of the old Mirsch cartoon created especialy for the original Pink Panther Movie. It is also being enjoyed by my grand kids.

This is what we get in the USA, 8 episodes of Pink Panther cartoon on ONE DVD, lol. UK and rest of Europe have already released a 4 DVD complete collection set called "Pink Panther Cartoon Box Set" of all 124 classic Pink Panther episodes plus unseen footages, and extras. The only shows that we get which come out super fast on DVDs are the hundreds of reality shows that just aired only 2 months ago, lol. Just a comment on some of the above reviews that asked why there weren't more cartoons on the DVD. In Europe the complete set is available (Region 2 DVDs). Four DVDs, 900 minutes, 124 episodes of Pink Panther Animation plus extras. I think this may be what some folks are looking for. You can find it on Amazon.co.uk and its called The Pink Panther Cartoon Collection.

"The Pink Panther"- the original movie, the cartoon character, and the theme music- are all great, but this sampler of the "Pink Panther" cartoons from the '60s and '70s is uneven.
For me, the '60s series is superior, thanks to the spare, wordless animation, the pantomime-styled Panther, and- above all-that fantastic Mancini music.
