Welcome to Grouchland, U.S.A., place of a thousand stenches. This is where everyone's favorite red monster winds up when he stars in his first feature film, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. Elmo learns a lesson when he refuses to share his blanket with his best friend, Zoe, then loses it in Oscar's can, where it goes all the way to Grouchland. There the beloved blanket winds up in the clutches of the greediest man alive, Huxley (played by Mandy Patinkin), and Elmo has to venture alone to Huxley's lair to get it back. The Sesame Street gang follows Elmo but ends up in the Grouchland jail. Fortunately, whenever things start looking too bleak, our hosts Ernie and Bert stop the film and offer reassurance. There are also numerous opportunities for audience participation (canned kids' voices will prevent parents from feeling too silly when viewing at home). This 73-minute film has plenty to entertain the youngsters as well as details and inside jokes for parents. And of course there are marvelous animated effects--although seeing Elmo dance in 1999 isn't quite as remarkable as it was to see Kermit ride a bicycle in 1977's The Muppet Movie. The songs are fun and bouncy, and veteran performers Patinkin and Vanessa Williams (as the Queen of Trash) contribute their exceptional talent. The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland was conceived as a film kids could see in theaters; in the safe environs of home, it's good fun for anyone over the age of 2, or even younger in small doses. --David Horiuchi

Rating:  - Child enjoyed it, but is agitated much of the movie...
My 28 mo son liked the songs in this movie. However, once Elmo's blanket was stolen, he kept screaming 'give back Elmo'!. Over and over again until the end of the movie. He was so agitated on the first showing, that he insisted we give his blanket to Elmo, by putting it on top of the tv set. As much as it seems to upset him, he still asks to watch it, so we allow it. I would agree this movie maybe isnt for sensitive children.
Rating:  - Great for travel
We got this movie for our 22 month old daughter to watch on a plane trip. She watched it the whole way there, and the whole way back - not a peep or a wiggle the whole flight. I have never seen her so enthralled with a movie.
She greats the characters as they come on screen and really seems to follow the plot. We've watched the movie since we got home and, so far I've found it quite charming. She dances along with the musical numbers and says no-no to the bad guy. All in all this is ... Read More
Rating: - This is NOT Sing & Play
My one-year-old daugter was at a friends house, and fell infatuated with what I thought was Elmo in Grouchland. It ends up that there is a Sing & Play version of Elmo in Grouchland that includes the songs from this movie, with classic additional Elmo footage. This is a good movie, just know there is another DVD (Elmo in Grounchland: Sing & Play) that my daughter likes even more.

My son loves, Elmo. This is my second purchase of this dvd. The first one was worn out from watching it so much. My son would watch this dvd
everyday if we let him. The story line and songs are great.
