Rating: - SIMPLY EXCELLENT
This movie is one of the best I have seen in my life. The beautiful and sad love story between George Sand and Alfred de Musset, the perfect actors that gave them life, Juliette Binoche and Benoit Magimel, the costumes, designed by Christian Lacroix, the music.
I would give this movie 6 stars If I could, but since I cannot, I will give it "only" 5.
This movie is a "must see". I strongly recommand it.

I bought this DVD because I really like Juliette Binoche and Benoit Magimel as actors. I had loved Magimel's intense presence in "Le roi danse" and his versatility in more modern tales. I was also curious to see their acting under the influence of their personal love life story starting during this shooting. Although benoit Magimel is great, I don't think he has been used at the height of his talent in this movie. Juliette Binoche gives more of herself and the photography and camera presence help ... The first time we see Alfred de Musset he is making bawdy sketches in a posh bohemian salon-bordello. And this is the atmosphere that he prefers to all others: one of opulent languor. But strangely enough this great poet still lives at home with his mother, sister, and older brother, Paul. As the second son of a wealthy but eccentric family Alfred de Musset must constantly bicker with his older brother, Paul, who also is a literary figure of the day. The two have a love and hate relationship. In one ... Read More
Rating: - DON'T LET ITALY FOOL YOU!
Juliette Binoche and Benoit Magimel are excellent here as writers who become, against convention and of course against logic, lovers. Of course both characters, the writer George Sand and the poet Alfred de Musset, are neither conventional nor logical people. Unfortunately the story is not very engaging; if one knows nothing about Sand or Musset, it might not even make a lot of sense. All I can say here is that they let Italy fool them, which Italy will do every time. Stories in which people run off, ... Read More
Rating: - Children Always Grow Up....Even These Two
This French film is a depiction of infamous lovers, 19th century writers George Sand and Alfred de Musset.
The storyline for this movie is based on a memoir written by Alfred de Musset after his notoriously bitter breakup with George Sand. Musset bordered on crazy and his passions became ignited by the independence of Sand, never one to cower before a man. Sand admits her passionate frustration toward Musset in her own memoirs written years later. They are the essence of the perfect couple ... Read More
