Carry on Cowboy really was not the best outing the crew ever had, it didn't have enough scope in the story line to prize in the usual mainstays of carry on comedy, high camp, innuendo, and good old fashioned British sexual high jinx born out of the natinal psyche of embarressed naughtiness.

Carry On Cowboy was one of directors' Gerald Thomas' favourite Carry On film. Unlike most other Carry On films there is a more gritty, hard-edged realism to it and is certainly the darkest and most violent Carry On film.
