Editorial Review:
Description: Hopkins' award-winning genius for creating characters delivers again in his taut, intelligent portrayal of John Strickland - a man caught in a web of lies, seduction, moral deception and ultimately, shattering violence. John Strickland feels trapped in both a marriage and career that no longer feed or fulfill him. He finds himself between the bed-sheets of a rich, beautiful and politically connected woman - a move that sets into motion forces that will shatter his entire world. A MARRIED MAN is an honest, intelligent, psychologically rich portrait of a man seduced by pleasure and power. With unpredictable twists and turns , it is a story of love, passion, betrayal, corruption and all too human need…a gripping look at a troubled marriage, and an even more troubling murder.
Amazon.com: Anthony Hopkins gives a subtle but searing performance as a lawyer who aspires to a political career but takes dangerous steps. Eager to escape the boredom of his marriage, John Strickland (Hopkins) first just flirts with the daughter of some friends. But when a social worker named Paula Gerard (Lise Hilboldt) approaches him for help with a case, she turns out to be not only young, pretty, and attracted to John, but is also the heiress to a large fortune. As the affair progresses, John discovers that both his wife and his mistress have secret sides--which come forth after a gruesome murder. A Married Man is slow but meticulous, and the breadth of psychological detail possible in a four-hour miniseries creates a vivid picture of marriage and adultery. Hopkins excels at the kind of stark inner conflict that burns with a cold but brilliant flame. --Bret Fetzer

It features a young Anthony Hopkins playing a upper middle class London barrister who is just approaching middle age, beginning to tire of his career -- and his wife. The wife is equally dissatisfied with her own life. The mystery proceeds from there. Very highly ... Read More
