Today is it possible to see "amazing" drummers that can do incredible things, but they do know that the feeling, musicality, and esthusiasm of Gene Krupa, left a footprint that is a font of inspiration for all drummers

My first exposure to Krupa was as a young lad; 4-5 years old. My older brother was an avid Krupa fan and naturally I wasn't going to get to hear anyone else... That's ok because as the years went by and I began to play drums I realized that Krupa was a master on drums. Who better to emulate than a master? I first purchased this recording on VHS tape a number of years ago and made the mistake of letting my older brother borrow it. Yup - he kept it and won't give it back... Ive looked for a long time to find videos of Gene Krupa. Yup-I am a drummer & he has been my main influence ever since I was old enough to pick up a pair of sticks. This dvd was meant for anyone who plays drums. Come & see the all time master. Some have come close but not many can top the pure genius of Gene playing solo drums. Also good are the insights he himself gives. What a great dvd!!!!!!

I enjoyed this introspective of a guy who really enjoyed playing the drums. This video has wonderful solo clips in various atmospheres and periods of his life. Any musician who wants to swing, acknowledge dynamics and rhythms, should study the performance pieces. Now if only a filmaker could make a documentary on Charles Mingus or Artie Shaw, this presentable to people like myself, who are mere "tourists" in the jazz world.
