Editorial Review:

Amazon.com essential video:
This 1953 musical is very much a vehicle for Doris Day, in the title role, as a wild cowgal who can outshoot and outsing any boy on the range. When an actress arrives in Deadwood and uses her feminine charms on Jane's secret love, Wild Bill Hickock (Howard Keel), Jane tries to mend her tomboy ways. Not exactly up to the feminist code of honor, this is still energetic and Day is very perky. Of course, one could almost detect a homosexual undercurrent with the cross-dressing Jane, but this was Hollywood in the 1950s, so we best not. This won an Oscar for Best Song--'Secret Love,' by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster. --Rochelle O'Gorman

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful, I love this movie & was able to enjoy right away.
I received my movie right away and able to finally ad this movie to my collection and it was in great shape. Thank you.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great songs, fun plot
A must have for anyone who likes musicals. Doris Day makes a great Calam, both before and after her makeover, and Howard Keel is his usual, slightly misogenistic but charming self. Lots of great songs, good dancing, and some very funny scenes.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Calamity Jane is whip-crackin' fun!
Calamity Jane is the story of a tomboy in the Dakota territory during the 19th century. She can ride and shoot better than any man, except Wild Bill Hickock. In fact, she's often confused for a man due to the fact that she's always wearing buckskins and a dirty army hat. Calamity is spunky and full of energy; the only problem is that she can't get Danny, the Lieutenant of her dreams, to realize that she's in love with him and return the feeling. Then one day, Katie Brown comes to town. She and ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Terrific
Love this movie with great songs and actors. Always a feel good movie any time.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A typical Doris Day vehicle
Doris Day was very good as a singer, dancer heroine. I loved Howard Keel as the baritone Wild Bill Hickok. Supporting cast was also great, but overall just pleasant and fun not great. Definitely a whole family movie.
