Product Description: Pacino plays a ruthless Cuban gangster involved in a cocaine empire, in this violent crime epic inspired by the 1932 classic of the same title. Genre: Feature Film-Action/Adventure Rating: R Release Date: 24-JUL-2007 Media Type: DVD
Amazon.com essential video: This sprawling epic of bloodshed and excess, Brian De Palma's update of the classic 1932 crime drama by Howard Hawks, sparked controversy over its outrageous violence when released in 1983. Scarface is a wretched, fascinating car wreck of a movie, starring Al Pacino as a Cuban refugee who rises to the top of Miami's cocaine-driven underworld, only to fall hard into his own deadly trap of addiction and inevitable assassination. Scripted by Oliver Stone and running nearly three hours, it's the kind of film that can simultaneously disgust and amaze you (critic Pauline Kael wrote 'this may be the only action picture that turns into an allegory of impotence'), with vivid supporting roles for Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Robert Loggia. --Jeff Shannon

Rating: - GREAT
Directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone, "Scarface" is a movie that will not be forgotten. A Cuban refugee named Tony Montana (Pacino) comes to America for the American Dream. Montana then becomes the "king" in the drug world as he ruthlessly runs his empire of crime in Miami, Florida. This gangster movie is very violent, and some scenes are unpleasant to watch. This movie has around 180+ F-words and is almost three hours long. This movie is entertaining and you will never get bored. ... Read More

Rating: - Overrated and cheesy
After his renowned roles in the Godfather movies and Serpico, I can't believe Al Pacino agreed to star in this truly sub-par melodrama. I finally got around to watching the entirety of this "influential" "masterpiece" and was surprised at how bad it really was. That's not to say it's unwatchable. It's not boring and Al Pacino is entertaining as he overacts the hell out of a one-dimensional role. But it's no cinematic masterpiece either. All it is is mental cotton candy. In fact, this is basically a ... Read More

Besides the great actings and excellent screenplay (developed by Oliver Stone) on this "Platinum Edition" you get the chance to watch "Scarface" in great sound and image. Serioulsy just to paint you a picture: if you have DTS at your home, you might wanna dogde the bullets of the shootings because they sound so real with the improved ... Read More
