Editorial Review:
Description: One of the world's most legendary pianists reveals new aspects of his life and music in this pair of compelling films. In 'Off the Record,' Gould revels in his freedom from the public at his college retreat near Lake Simcoe, Ontario, and plays for an audience of one: his collie. In 'On the Record,' Gould arrives in New York for a recording session, joking and bantering as he reveals his role as a vigorous, sensitive, and critical creator and interpreter of music.

Rating: - EXCEPTS of WORKS PLAYED BY GLENN IN THE OFF THE RECORD
I am an admirer of Glenn Gould as his playing, especially Bach's work, gives me the inspiration and aspiration to study Bach's work upon hearing the genius perform them.
Re OFF THE RECORD item 7 - Exponent of Bach, Glenn played a work which sound like from Bach. I am dying to know the title of the piece and would be grateful if some knowledgible music lover inform me.
Also, is the piece available in the Glenn Gould Edition from Sony Classic.

The first one focuses on recording sessions at Columbia, the company that gave him a contract after his successful N.Y. debut in 1955, and he plays Bach's Italian Concerto, sitting low with crossed legs on his specially made small piano chair, with a band-aid on his index finger, playing ... Rating: - Glenn Gould...our hero!
For those who do not know Glenn Gould, this is just one of the fine examples which show who he was, and how wonderful he was... not only in the talent area, but also as a human. Sure, he had some issues, but those who are gifted often do, so it is best not to put him down in any way, shape or form. He was probably the best person in our time for Bach, in addition to other composers, however, Bach is probably the perfection area for him. There is also an example of his Gibbons on another DVD (The Alchemist...EMI ... Read More
