Rating: - o'k movie, DVD quality is horrible
I suppose it is not a bad movie. But to understand this, one needs to see it - which is all but impossible with this DVD. Obviously the image was transferred from a bad quality VHS without any corrections made to the picture. The screen is dark, everything is foggy and even scratchy a bit. It is quite a disspointment as the cast is interesting, the characters exotic and the period is one not often covered in any movies.
Rating: - A delightful film
I first saw this film in 1971. I recently obtained a DVd of it and was delighted to find it as I remembered it. Gentle, intelligent, funny, warm, and - did I remember to say funny? Not unlike Mel Brooks "The Twelve Chairs", but less raucous. Yul Brynner and Eli Wallach obviously enjoy themselve as they vie for Lanie Kazan's affections and David Opatashu (as was his custom) underplays and steals the film. And it has a great ending as well.
