Rating: - Started strong, finished weak
I love the Avengers and own most of them. I was running out of things to watch so tried the New Avengers 76 and really got into it. I enjoy Purdey and Gambits chemistry on screen. Unfortunately the last few episodes are in Canada - and while at first it was funny and something different, I just didn't enjoy it as much.
Rating: - Farewell, farewell to you who would hear
Steed, Purdey, Gambit. A great combination. Action, espionage, quirkiness. Most of the ingredients for a good series.
The middle has dropped out of the mixture in the oven.
This series is a little soggy throughout. I have watched it several times and for some of the episodes that is certainly more than a little too much. What is missing is not just the quick witted repartit or even the sense of intellectual snobbiness that goes with some of the stories. I even thought ... Read More
Rating: - A Fond Farewell to Steed & Co.
For my taste this collection hit the spot- a look at Patrick MacNee and his newest cohorts for one last time. We get to see a brief (although obviously hastily shot and inserted with a heavy hand) retrospective of Diana Rigg as Mrs Peel, a few episodes shot in Canada (finally they drive on the right side of the road), and like one other reviewer enjoyed, the episode called 'Emily'. For me this one was worth the price of admission for the last time I saw it broadcast it had been edited for higher ... Read More
Rating: - A Great Disappointment !
The Avengers '77 series does not even come close to the clever series from the 1960s. This new series is sorely missing the quick witted dialogue from the Emma Peele days. There is no inkling of the fast paced action scenes featuring Tara King.
Avengers '77 turned out to be another substandard remake.
Rating: - More Steed / More Fun!
Steed is a little more prominant in New Avengers '77 than in '76. Purdy and Gambit are still there being beautiful, dashing and extremely funny and smart, but Steed is also back in the mix in a bigger way. Wonderful fun!
