Editorial Review:

Description:
It all begins here, as baby-faced rookie Officer Tom Hanson (Johnny Depp) is assigned to an elite squad of young undercover cops - Judy Hoffs (Holly Robinson Peete), Doug Penhall (Peter DeLuise) and Harry Truman Ioki (Dustin Nguyen) - to infiltrate high schools and fight crime. Frederic Forrest and Steven Williams co-star in this classic first season that also features such guest stars as Jason Priestley, Josh Brolin, David Paymer, Sherilyn Fenn and Blair Underwood in what became Fox’s first runaway hit and remains one of the coolest cop shows in TV history! 21 JUMP STREET - SEASON ONE includes all 13 explosive episodes - including the rarely seen two-part premiere - and is now packed with extras that include all-new interviews with stars Holly Robinson Peete, Dustin Nguyen, Steven Williams and series co- creator Stephen J. Cannell and an exclusive audio commentary with star Peter DeLuise.

Amazon.com:
Best known today as the series that helped launch Johnny Depp to stardom, Stephen J. Cannell's 21 Jump Street was also one of the first hit programs for the fledgling Fox network, a status that lasted for most of its five-year run (1987-91), thanks to its engaging mix of youth culture and police drama. As outlined in the pilot, Depp's baby-faced Ofc. Tom Hanson is transferred to the special Jump Street division, a unit that utilized young cops to infiltrate juvenile crime. Unlike many of Fox's youth-oriented shows of the period (i.e., Beverly Hills 90210), Jump Street took its stories seriously, and addressed numerous social issues in its episodes; though some of the fashions and slang seem dated, the program remains entertaining decades later. The Jump Street set compiles all 13 episodes of the debut season, including the two-part pilot; the solid extras feature commentary by co-star Peter DeLuise, as well as interviews with fellow Jump Street officers Dustin Nguyen, Holly Robinson Peete, and Steven Williams (whose Captain Fuller replaced Frederic Forrest's Jenko halfway through the first season), as well as the prolific Cannell. --Paul Gaita

hi i'm Paula and i'm from Portugal, i bought 21JUMPSTREET and to see Hanson(Depp)and Penhall's(deluise) jokes again was so fun,the quality is very good, and as commentaries with the cast, sadly for me it doesn't have subtitles not even in english. i dare you to buy it you wont regret it, YOU WILL LOVE IT.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Ahhh, Johnny Depp.....
Ok, up front, I am an intense Johnny Depp fan. With that said, should I actually write anything else? Probably not but I will anyway.

The series is as poignant today as it was in the late 80's. If Hollie Robinson's hair could be tamed down a bit and Frederick Forrest's hippie talk was toned down a bit, it could probably play pretty well today. Themes around teenage prostitution, drug dealing and using, pregnancy, the whole gamut of teen issues are covered in the series. It's not as sexual ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - 21 Jump Street - The Complete First Season
A great item to buy for the Johnny Depp lover. Guest star appearances by stars you might recognize to this day as still being popular and famous, such as Brad Pitt for example. Great show and I wish there were shows like this still on TV today.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Okey-Doke! This is awesome!
Hey mates,

Okay, to start it off. I was born in 1985 -- two years before this show even aired. Therefore I was a bit young to enjoy this television series. However, I must say, that even if the music has changed, I LOVED this season! I had many laughs at Hanson especially because he's such a clear cut guy that if it ain't done by the book he's gonna remind everyone about it. I especially love it when he goes Punk in the last episode, I have to get a pick of him in the "Plaid Bondage Pants" ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - For the REAL "21 Jump Street" Fans
I was so excited when I found out that "21 Jump Street" was on DVD. It's a shame I found out while just walking around Border's last year. I started my collection with the 5th season and, I must say, that I was thrilled! I believe that the 5th season is the worst of the bunch, but still a great set of episodes. I love the acting and the plots with most of the episodes, but I couldn't stand the constant changing of the cast.

The loss of Johnny Depp and Dustin Nguyen made the producers scramble ... Read More
