Product Description:
Jack Lemmon and Ricky Nelson get that sinking feeling when they pilot THE WACKIEST SHIP IN THE ARMY in this hilarious comedy-adventure. During World War II the Army recruits Navy officer Rip Crandall (Lemmon) to command a battered old schooner for a top-secret mission. Masquerading as a Japanese fishing boat this nautical nightmare must smuggle a spy through mine-infested waters of the South Pacific. Unfortunately for Crandall he has inherited a wild crew of butterfingered landlubbers including First Officer Tommy Hanson (Nelson). Can the dedicated lieutenant whip these comically inexperienced gobs into shape in time to carry out their perilous mission? Starring: Jack Lemmon (2-time Academy Award® Winner 1955 Mr. Roberts 1973 Save the Tiger 8-time Academy Award® Nominee) Ricky Nelson (Golden Globe® Nominee 1959 Most Promising Newcomer).System Requirements:Running Time 99 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY Rating: NR UPC: 043396049772 Manufacturer No: 04977

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Back in the Navy
This is not a major war movie, but,it is very enjoyable none-the-less.Jack Lemmon plays a much more competent Naval officer than his Oscar winning role as Ensign Pulver in "Mister Roberts".This time he is given an assignment to take a broken down sailing vessel through Japanese held waters for a special mission to deliver an Australian Coast Watcher to his post on an island in enemy waters. The trip is at times comical and at times exciting.Rick Nelson gives his best acting performance since "Rio Bravo" ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Welcome to the Army at it's best
During World War II the Army recruits Navy officer Rip Crandall (Jack Lemmon) to command a battered old schooner for a top-secret mission. If you are ready for a bunch of misfits getting into one fix after another then you will enjoy this movie. Jack Lemmon and Ricky Nelson make a great team in this World War II comedy. Just think I have even worked along side some of these type people in the Real Navy. Oh boy, Your tax dollars at work. So sit back, Relax and get that buttery popcorn for one of the ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Surprisingly good drama/comedy & Excellent transfer to DVD
If you judged this movie by its title, you might conclude that this was another idiotic, moronic attempt at finding humor in WWII. Not true! this is an entertaining, drama/comedy (there are some humorous scences, but the movie is not slapstick and not like the humor in sit coms). I am not sure if this is based on a true story, but it could have been. The premise is believable. The details of the plot can be found in other reviews.

Yes--the film includes Ricky Nelson, who, while not known as ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Disappointing Lemon
Somehow, I (we) remembered this movie differently from what we just saw and sadly, were dissapointed with the plot (if any), dialogue and the acting.
