When man-about-town Maxime falls in love with violin virtuoso Camille, Stephane - whose only attachment is a platonic one with a bookshop owner - takes his own interest in this new girl in Maxime's life and in her music-making. Camille gradually becomes attracted to him, but finds his cold lack of response by turns puzzling and irritating. Bit by bit the odd ménage-à-trois becomes set on a collision course.

A Heart in Winter (Un Coeur en hiver) is a 1991 film by Claude Sautet (Nelly et Monsieur Arnaud, 1995, Sautet's last film). It stars Daniel Auteuil, Emmanuelle Béart and André Dussolier. The film is a portrayal of the inner life of the character played by Auteuil, an instrument maker called Stephane, and when you watch the film you cannot but pay tribute to the talents of Auteuil, probably the greatest French actor of his generation.

This admired and sometimes forgotten French director (The jeweled Le chose de la vie Things of the life) made a great artistic achievement with this story of disaffection and love discounters a very intoxicating film. You must be in a special for appreciate with a majuscule glee this superb movie.
