Among the multinational characters are an American industrialist out to exploit the island's rich source of mineral water -- also the source of all the subsequent trouble on the island -- some inexplicable French-German visitors, a singing revolutionary with ties to Fidel Castro, and various parodies of Brit diplomats and politicians, Margaret Thatcher included. Both Michael Caine as the guv, and Leonard Rossiter as the stuffy Sir Malcolm hand in winning performances. Films with similar themes include Woody Allen's Bananas and Club Paradise, starring Robin Williams.

Rating:  - Weather Report - It's Hot and Windy
I love this movie. Michael Cain plays the British Counsel in Casacara, the British Empire has deemed the place to be useless. Until that is mineral water is discovered. Well you have buffoon freedom fighters, the drunk and sleezy counsel's wife, the environmentalist, a colorful group of locals, the counsel who likes non medicinal herbals. There are great lines in this movie and if your sense of humor is bent just enough you will enjoy this flick.

A truly talented cast cannot save this beached whale of a comedy. It misses on every comic level, from slapstick to sight gags to attempted witty social commentary.
Very disappointing to see so much talent wasted.

one of the true gems that came under the radar, a superb ensamble cast that seems to get better over the years.A cult classic in this family and every one that we introduced it to.
