Retired United States Navy pilot Jay Cochran (Kevin Costner) is looking forward to spending his days relaxing at his cabin in the countryside. First however he plans to visit his rich and powerful friend Tibey (Anthony Quinn) on his Mexican estate. Tibey s violent temper and shady business dealings make him a dangerous man. His young trophy wife the doe-eyed and melancholy Miryea (Madeleine Stowe) yearns for motherhood and finds her marriage to this older man who does not want any more children unfulfilling. Despite his friendship with Tibey Cochran finds himself drawn to Miryea and they begin an illicit affair risking Tibey s wrath each time they meet. Eventually their luck runs out and the two are forced to face the consequences of their actions as a cycle of revenge begins. Neither Cochran nor Miryea realize how vicious Tibey can be until it is too late. This often grisly, arguably racist movie stars Kevin Costner as a U.S. Navy pilot who is the improbable friend of a powerful, vaguely criminal Mexican millionaire (Anthony Quinn). While visiting the latter on his estate, Costner's character has an affair with his host's gorgeous young wife (Madeline Stowe), for which he is almost beaten to death and the wife mutilated and turned into a junkie prostitute (nice, eh?). The hero seeks retaliation, and you may want the same against director Tony Scott, who makes the navy sequences look like beefcake excerpts from his earlier hit film, Top Gun. However, if you can stand the garishness, then perhaps the extreme violence won't be too bothersome, either. But expect a rough time either way. --Tom Keogh

If you read Mr. Keoh review (Amazon Critic) and you haven't heard a raving PC liberal movie critic yet this week then go back up and check him out.
But seriously don't waste your time. This is one of those films the critics love to slam but I saw it in the theater and loved it then and still do.

When I realized what the title was, I immediately searched for it on Amazon and sure enough, they had it. REVENGE is a terrific movie--something that I will watch over and over. Imposible to find here in Europe the DVD version of Revenge, I had the chance to get the Blu Ray Region Free Edition. Movie was filmed in 1990 but quality of video transfer is very impressive and crisp. PCM Uncompressed Sound is also great.
New cut of the movie by Tony Scott himself is shorter but even blooder than original, but's a wonderful piece of romantic drama.

This movie has everything! Love, lust, friendship, betrayal, violence and beauty. Kevin Costner gives his best performance ever in a Steve McQueen-like star turn. Madeline Stowe, the most beautiful woman in Hollywood, shows that she can act with the best of them. And she and Costner push the bounds of the film's original R-rating with their smoldering love scenes.
