Product Description: Detour (Enhanced) 1945
This film has been enhanced using a Video Enhancement Program that reduces noise and enhances video quality.
Detour (1945) is a film noir classic that stars Tom Neal andAnn Savage. The movie was adapted by Martin Goldsmith from his own novel, and was directed by Edgar G. Ulmer. The film was released by the Producers Releasing Corporation (PRC), one of the so-called 'poverty row' film studios. Although made as a B-movie on a small budget of $20,000, the film has garnered substantial praise through the years and is held in high regard. Detour was shot in only six days.
Piano player, Al (Tom Neal), sets off hitchhiking his way to California to be with his girl friend. Along the way, a stranger in a convertible gives him a ride. While driving, Al stops to put the top up during a rainstorm. He discovers that the owner of the car has died in his sleep. Al panics and dumps the body in a gully and drives off in his car. Later, he picks up another hitchhiker. Vera (Ann Savage), a femme fatale, threatens to turn him in for the supposed murder unless he assumes the identity of the dead man to collect an inheritance.
Many twists and turns in this cult classic that will have you on the edge of your seat.

Rating: - Good version of classic Film Noir
This review is for this version of Detour (Remastered Edition) 1945. Most of the versions available through Amazon are garbage. This is the best version that I have found so far. It looks good on my big TV and the sound is much crisper than previous versions that I have purchased.
"Detour" is the greatest b-movie, film-noir of all time. It's hard to put your finger on just what makes it so brilliant. There are plenty of technical errors, but the make the film what it is. Roger ... Read More
Rating: - Detour (1945) is great Film Noir
Detour is the first poverty row film chosen for conservation by the Library of Congress. The cast is largely unknown and the studio PRC Pictures specialised in extremely low budget movies. Detour, their biggest success was shot in 6 days by cult director Edgar Ulmer.
The star of the picture, Tom Neal was a Harvard Law Graduate in real life. He was known for his difficult temperament which limited the roles he was offered by the major studios. In 1951 he beat up Franchot Tone over a girl ... Read More
Rating: - Film Noir Classic and an Edgar G. Ulmer Masterpiece
Detour is one of the all-time great examples of film noir. The use of shadowy black and white cinematography, a star-crossed protagonist, a femme fatale, a cynical voice-over narration and ambiguous morality can almost be used to define the Film Noir Genre. Brought together by legendary director Edgar G. Ulmer in only a few days and on a diminutive budget, Detour's B-Film sets only add to both the film and the genre, a true testament to the mastery of Ulmer.
Al Roberts (Tom Neal) makes ... Read More
