Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
An adrenaline-charged action thriller, Lionsgate's Bangkok Dangerous stars Nicolas Cage (Leaving Las Vegas, National Treasure) as 'Joe,' an anonymous assassin takes an unexpected turn when he travels to Thailand to complete a series of contract killings. Joe (Nicolas Cage), a remorseless hitman, is in Bangkok to execute four enemies of a ruthless crime boss named Surat. He hires Kong (Shahkrit Yamnarm), a street punk and pickpocket, to run errands for him with the intention of covering his tracks by killing him at the end of the assignment. Strangely, Joe, the ultimate lone wolf, finds himself mentoring the young man instead whilst simultaneously being drawn into a tentative romance with a local shop girl. As he falls further under the sway of Bangkok’s intoxicating beauty, Joe begins to question his isolated existence and let down his guard …just as Surat decides it’s time to clean house. Directors The Pang Brothers (The Eye) paint an explosive picture of the Bangkok underworld, illuminated with neon and saturated in violence. From a screenplay by Jason Richman, Bangkok Dangerous is based on the Pang Brothers’ wildly popular Hong Kong action film of the same name. Starring alongside Cage are Shahkrit Yamnarm (Belly of the Beast), Charlie Young (Seven Swords), Panward Hemmanee and Dom Hetrakul (Sniper 3). The film is produced by Jason Shuman, William Sherak, Nicolas Cage and Norm Golightly. Andrew Pfeffer, Derek Dauchy, Denis O’Sullivan and Ben Waisbren serve as the executive producers.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Better Effort
I really like Cage when he plays rougher/meaner characters. I liked his turn in Kiss of Death as Little Junior. After seeing him in a hero role for Ghost Rider and the National Treasure movies, it was nice to see him in a grittier role. The movie is very well done. The story of a high level hitman with his own personal set of rules and code of conduct was great. The action was brutal and bloody. I thought the acting was very good all the way around. The only distracting thing was the hideous ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wowee
Wow! Wow! Wow! I have to admit, score one for Nicolas Cage, especially after "Ghostrider." What an incredible ending, I was really surprised. I have to admit "Joe" could have kept it together and let all his touchy feelings out after he retired, but "se la vie."

ENTER THAILAND
The city with the coolest name...
IT'S BANGKOK!!!

Nicolas Cage pulls in to town, and it's bound to get dangerous. He plays "Joe", the ruthless hitman with the bad hairdo. It's hard to strike fear in people when you look like the disgruntled son of Roseanne-Carrotop.

That's okay though. Joe works from the shadows and swears by four rules.
1. Don't ask questions
2. Don't take an interest in people
3. Erase every trace
4. Know ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - You've Seen This Film Before
About 30 minutes in, this film jumps the shark. The opening 30 minutes are really very good, excellent film style (unusual photography, sound enhances what you see, interesting lighting, and creative editing), voice over is enlightening, and I was drawn into the film. Once Nicolas Cage is off to Bangkok, the film spirals into something not so good. The original film style and story telling is lost, the film drags on in a story line I've seen 20 or 30 times. It's old hat, the hardened criminal whose heart ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Bangkok humbles a hit man
Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):

1. Nicolas Cage plays a hit man named Joe
2. Poor Joe - he has to go through the whole movie with Cage's bad hairstyle
3. Joe has rules that make him the best in the hit man business
4. People depend on Joe to do his job, get paid, and disappear.
5. We often wish that 4. above would apply to Cage also
6. Joe heads to Bangkok for a four-hitter for a man named Surat.
7. One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble as ... Read More
