Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: Mamoru Oshii's landmark Ghost in the Shell (1995) largely defined the cyberpunk genre and influenced the Matrix films in the U.S. The long-awaited sequel continues the adventures of Batou, Major Kusanagi's former assistant, who was left behind when she disappeared into the cyber-realm of the Net. With his new human partner, Togusa, Batou investigates a series of bloody murders involving gynoids, robots with sexual functions. The case leads them to the headquarters of the Locus Solus company, where Batou uncovers the evil secret behind the creation of the gynoids. Innocence includes some staggeringly beautiful CG images, especially a parade depicting characters from Chinese mythology. Oshii contrasts this glittering beauty with a Blade Runner-esque dystopia. But even his skill as a director can't disguise the fact that the underdeveloped story and flat characters are far less interesting than the opulent visuals. (Rated PG-13: graphic violence, violence against women, brief nudity, profanity, alcohol and tobacco use.) --Charles Solomon

Rating: - Anime masterpiece gets fair treatment finally!
I am a big fan of GitS and have all of it on dvd. The DVD of this film had no English Dub and only closed captions instead of subtitles. There are about 10,000 reviews complaining about it. I didn't mind the non English because I usually prefer to watch these films in Japanese. Usually, some of the tone of the movie and character personalities is distorted by the American overdubs in my opinion. I do not like having to read sound effects though like "phone rings", ect.. So now we have English ... Read More
Rating: - Get Ghost in the Shell 1 and skip this one
GitS 2 is a confused mis-mash of CGI and traditional Japanese animation. The CGI is completely out of place and it distracts the viewer, not letting them into the story. It has the makings for a good story, but the presentation is simply awful.
Rating: - Breathtakingly beautiful
I got the full japanese version from oversees a couple months ago, it cost 4 times this one's price. It's the same product though.
Before I got it, I had reservations about possible video quality, due to the age of the original production.
I was not surprised after popping it in, I was blown out of my chair! I own about 250 BluRay discs, and about 200 HD-DVD's. This, believe it or not, is the most impressive, beautiful, and visually stimulating hi-def disc I own, period. ... Read More
Rating: - Fro the demo it looks amazing.
I got the Dolby Digital Bluray demo disc from a home expo in Orlando and it has a short scene from this movie on it. The picture looks absolutely jaw dropping and the audio is very good quality. A lot of the demo booths at the show were using the scene on the dolby disc from this movie as their demo material. I've been debating on whether to order an import version of this for $90, but thank god I waited. Thanks for finally releasing this in the US on Bluray!!!
