Rating: - A remarkably funny and sweet romantic comedy!
Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts light up the screen as William Thacker and Anna Scotts! Anna is the biggest actress in Notting Hill, London; William is just a normal guy, who owns the Travel Book Shop there and lives with his not-all-there frat mate, Spike. As luck would have it, Anna visits William's shop one day and things just happen from there! Even though you aren't part of the film you can almost feel their on-screen sparks flying out at you! Besides great romance, the characters in this film have some great lines. For example one of my favorites is the scene in the bookstore, towards the end(when Anna is asking William to take her back). She says, "I'm just a girl..standing in front of a boy...asking him to love her." Priceless! And then the one where she and William are relaxing (he's reading the paper and she's watching him) she tells William, "You have big feet. You know what they say about big feet! Big feet, big...shoes." Every time I watch this film and I hear that line I crack up! This is only a small sample of the humor you'll come by! (Of course Will also talks during that scene, but I only included Anna's lines.) Music is also not to be forgotten! A nice selection of songs is included. Each one adds to its scene and helps make this a very memorable film. I recommend this for fans of Julia Roberts or Hugh Grant. Or someone who just wants a good romantic comedy for their collection!
Rating: - Favorite Chick Flick
Love the film enough to have watched it several times. One more goof, though...check out the books when he throws in a free one for Anna.
Rating: - I loved this movie.
I was about to give up on movies, then this one came along and renewed my faith. The reason being that Roberts played herself and made it look almost real. She played a actress that makes $15 million a picture and has the typical problems that goes along with that. As interesting as this movie was, the big bang for the buck is that it has a happy ending. Like all of her movies in the end she ends up staying with the guy. They live happy ever after. That is why she makes the big bucks, she over comes the adversity in life and people can leave the theater feeling good about themselves and their lives. Even in run away bride all the more at the end of the movie she ends up with the guy she always wanted. She has the million dollar smile, there is no doubt. But there is something magical and she is able to deliver again and again, in movie after movie. Hugh Grant is the same way, he delivers again and again, movie after movie and they are more than a one trick pony.
Rating: - The attraction of opposite ways of living!
This is a charming story about a love story of the Nineties. It is filled of spontaneity and freshness. Julia Roberts has never been one of my female icons, but I must acknowledge she has never been best in any other film that I remember. The sexual chemistry between her and Hugh Grant was immediate.
The script is filled of very funny and inventive situations in the best tradition of the British Comedy.
Rating: - Boring!!!!
The plot seemed to unbelievable to begin with like to first kiss, the secondary characters after the first dinner didn't seem to fit in very well nor did I even like the strange roomate either.
I think they should have intially developed their first meeting better with him maybe assisting her some how and then after they have know each other could have the first kiss. The story should have centered on the two of them together than William's family, could have been less boring and put in more comedy with them together. For example have the two of them go to some type of special show with alot of other famous people and media there and have William interact with Anne in that situation.
Could have been better, too long, needs a better script.
