Rating: - Very Heartwarming movie
After having a case of Insomina this morining I turned on my TV and this movie was on . I had every intention of seeing this one in the theater back in 2000 but never got around to it so I decied to try my luck. The film is very heartwarming and Nicolas Cage gives a great perofmance. Brett Ratner proves once again he's a very talented director.
Rating: - Good family movie
This is what I would call a "feel good" movie. It makes a person take a look at the choices they've made in a whole different light.
Rating: - A Fun but Distorted Christmas Comedy-Drama
Jack Campbell is a single, wealthy Wall Street investment banker living an empty, decadent life in high society. He thinks he's got everything lined up for him, and the deal of his life is just about to happen the next day, which happens to be the 25th of December. Instead, he intervenes in a "robbery" and in the aftermath claims he's got "everything he wants", something he will in a way bitterly regret saying. The next morning, he wakes up in suburban New Jersey, with his wife next to him (the girlfriend he was supposed to marry, but instead left for a career in London), two kids and a dog. The "robber" has decided to give him a glimpse of the life he could have had if he had chosen differently, and from that the story goes.
It is a fun film, and I've seen it a couple of times, so no complaints there. The names of the folks behind the film reads like a phonebook in Tel Aviv, and judging from their rather grim view of the life of average White Americans, I can only feel sorry for their biased views. It appears that if you have money, you have a good life, and if you love your family, religion, culture and so on, you are a looser. This kind of reminds me of the sick book "The Authoritarian Personality" by the rather twisted Adorno, where everything good is bad, and everything bad is good, in the view of Adorno. Another thing is that how can two blue-eyed White parents have two dark, brown eyed kids and Campbell in the film manages to say about the baby "He's got your eyes". Do they seriously think people don't notice such stuff? How hard can it be to find some actors who at least vaguely resemble their would-be parents?
Even though Campbell does in a way discover that what is important in life is not found in your bank account, but rather in other areas of life, he does crave to return to his former shell of a life. Recommended, but because of the language, sexual themes and so on, this is not a film for children, even though it appears to have been partly marketed as such. If you want a fun and light entertainment, look no further, but beware that it is very shallow. 3,5 stars.
