Great film. One of the best of its kind with outstanding score. Fame-Oscar for best song.

The Bottom Line:
A film that feels (like MASH, come to think of it) in every way like the extended pilot for a TV show, Fame takes 134 minutes but doesn't really have time to develop any single character, instead giving thumbnail sketches of many and in-depth portrayals of none; before you know it it's over and you realize that in the time you spent watching caricatures go through the motions you could have watched Chinatown again.

At the New York City High School for the Performing Arts, students get specialized training that often leads to success as actors, singers, etc. This movie follows four students from the time when they audition to get into the school, through graduation. They are the brazen Coco Hernandez, shy Doris Finsecker, sensitive gay Montgomery MacNeil, and brash, abrasive Raul Garcia. 'Fame' (1980) is brilliant. It is memorable, interesting, and full of daring scenes and performances. I highly recommend this movie.
