Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Why did they bother?
The books are witty and charming. This, in stark contrast, is formulaic schlock. Americans -- and much of the world's consumers -- prefer their entertainment predigested so it doesn't require chewing, so they consume the same nutritionless movieland cliches endlessly.

In the land of limitless equality, everything is reduced to equal tastelessness. If you want impart the capacity for discernment to your child, you could start by avoiding this twaddle. The Eloise books are special, while this movie is mere product.

Update: I've since discovered that Anchor Bay has two Eloise animated DVDs, "Me, Eloise," and "Little Miss Christmas," which are far more tolerable than this Disney garbage. They are at least a bit more faithful to the spirit of the books.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Eh, not that good...
Wow, I am surprised with the number of 5 star reviews here. After reading these reviews, I was curious to see this movie, so I rented it last night. I am sorry to say, I found it just another cheey, predictable, over-acted family film. Not that it's worse than other live-action family films, just that this genre doesn't seem to produce many good films.

Right now my daugher, age 3, is too young for feature-length films, but since there are not many good family ones out there, I am already trying to do research for movies we will watch on family movie night one day soon. So far I am not having luck with live-action family films, and though there are some great animated ones (Aladdin, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast), they normally have a level of violence live action ones do not, and I am looking for pure fun, but a good movie too (though I'm starting to think animation is the way to go). This movie was okay, along the lines of Beethoven, Parent Trap (remake), but it's not on the level a movie like Mary Poppins is.

I'll have no problem renting (not buying) this for my daughter one day, and I'm sure she'll like it, but I'm still looking for that 'great for all ages' film that many reviewers here said this was and wonder why movies that are okay, not very good, like this get so many 5 stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Think Pink A Better Way of Life!
I grew up reading Kay Thompson's "Eloise" series about a precocious six year old who lives with Nanny, Weenie and Skipper-Dee in New York City's Plaza Hotel. I was delighted when the book had been made into a movie which was originally shown on the ABC Family Channel. The movie is the book come to life! Sophie is brillant as Eloise, Julie Andrews is a perfect Nanny and Hilary Knight makes a cameo apperance as a sidewalk artist who paints Eloise and her friend Leon. Eloise will have you laughing till your sides hurt. We have watched this movie many times over the past two years and never tire of it. This is a must have for the true Eloise fan!
