Rating:  - Sci-Fi
When I was a kid they used to run Sci-Fi and horror movies on Saturday mornings. Some were truly excellent such as The Thing, or The Day The Earth Stood Still. Other times, they were frankly pretty cheesy. Still, when your a kid that's part of their charm. The special effects here weren't half bad for it's day. I think that this film should be in every serious sci-fi buffs collection. Speaking of cult classics, here's a hot tip: Amazon has "An Occurence At Owl Creek Bridge"!! You haven't seen it? It's the one short film that will haunt you for life. SEE IT!

Rating: - Another great 50s classic
I can only second what others have already said about this 50s classic. Fifty years later, the special effects still hold up. The space station, spaceships, spacesuits, and other futuristic technology were beautifully realized. The scenes of the classic hub and spoke space station, a staple of the period, is truly impressive against the starry backdrop and is as good as any Chesley Bonestell painting. After watching scenes like the space walks one can only assume that it influenced many later, more famous flicks like 2001. The acting might not be as spectacular as the space scenes, but many viewers will recognize Ross Martin (who later starred in The Wild, Wild West), and William Hopper (who played on Perry Mason). The general's bizarre religious revelation against man conquering space is the only thing that really mars the movie's many fine points, but one must remember that depth psychology isn't exactly the SF genre's strong suit. Still, this was a bit cheesy even for the droll 50s. Done in a semi-documentary style after his stunning successes with When World's Collide and War of the Worlds, this movie may not be in their league, but it's still a better flick that most 50s SF films. And if you're a Pal fan, it's probably a must see.

Absolutely priceless sci fi / documentary of all the available knowledge on space travel 1955, including smoking in space, a fantastic chase scene with an asteroid and priceless dialogue.
If you are interested in the history of sci fi this is an absolute must have purchase :-)
Rating: - unbelieveable transfer and a good movie
Whoever made the copy of this DVD should be very proud. For an old movie to look his good is unbelieveable. The images at times appear to be 3D. As for the story it is great as well it relly takes me back to when I was young and saw it. I kinda doubt todays young viewers will like it because it has a story and the special effects arent to todays standards. In any case - highly reccommened
