Rating: - We've memorized every line!
This is a well written, well performed musical that has brought us many hours of viewing pleasure. Andrew Lloyd Webber's score is incredible and the 100-piece orchestra lends it such grandeur. This is the type of "opera" anyone will enjoy. Also a lot of fun for amateur psychiatrists to analyze the characters. We have literally watched it so many times that we have the whole dialogue (including song lyrics) memorized!
Rating: - Better than Broadway
The director took pains to cast Christine and Andrew Lloyd took the time and money to make this production definitive. This DVD melds the exquisite music with an improved and expanded script to make it completely satisfying. You will love this DVD.
Rating: - Book, Film, THEN Stage
I am a huge fan of the original novel Phantom of the Opera. When this film came out, I had not bothered to see the stage production, because I generally don't care for productions that are based on books.
Anyway, I ADORED this film. I thought it was a wonderful adaptation of the book. The actors, the sets, the costumes, and the music were all very appropriate and entertaining. I have the whole soundtrack on my iPod. That's how much I love it.
After seeing this film I saw the stage production and was highly disappointed. I wouldn't see that again for free.
I think it's unfortunate that so many theater purists are giving this film terrible reviews. I'm willing to bet most of them haven't read the original French novel.

Rating: - 5 PLUS
The Phantom of the Opera, from Andrew Lloyd Webber.
You need to go to Majestic musical theater, see the Broadway show first, and only then watch a DVD. You'll remember my recommendations when you revers the order.
Thank you,
