Rating: - MI5 Rocks
I got hooked on MI5 last year after a friend mentioned the series to me. I've enjoyed 24 and Sleeper Cell but have found that MI5, with the British accents and intelligent scripts, is even more engaging. Current events and issues are addressed and the writers are not at all afraid to portray things is a very, very realistic manner. MI5 is a more thoughtful, realistic and gritty account of what intelligence officers apparently have to deal with on a daily basis. I think you will like the series a lot.
Rating: - Still fascinating!
When I preread this season's summary on the BBC website, I wasn't quite sure whether I would like it: I tend to get 'attached' to main characters and I therefore didn't like the idea of some of them leaving the series.... Still, I am glad I bought it, because the third season didn't disappoint me: the 'downfall' of some of the spooks provides great material for dramatic and intense episodes, and the creators have managed to replace the old crew with worthy newcomers! Even more than in season 1 and 2, season 3 shows how nothing is ever simply black-and-white and each spook struggles with the many shades of grey in his or her work and the tense politics within and between government agencies. Looking forward to season 4, coming out in september 2006!
Rating: - All-Time Favorite Show
This is a realistic anti-terrorism show. The action, the drama, and the world class acting make it my all-time favorite drama. This season was excellent. I will miss the outgoing characters, but love the new characters too.
If you haven't seen this yet, don't go to the BBC MI-5 webpage as Series 4 has already played and there is information on the site which could spoil some of the drama.
Highly recommend! Can't wait to see Season 4.
Rating: - The Third Season
People seem to not like the fact that many cast changes (all explained within the context of the show) take place this season.
While I was sorry to see some of the superb cast leave, in most cases they are replaced by equally engaging, but different characters and not just clones of themselves.
Even into the third season, this series continues to provide thrilling and intelligent entertainment.
Rating: - Best ever television show
I think the comparisons to 24 are quite unfair really. Yes both shows focus on terrorism, but I believe that's where the similarities end. 24 is a fantastic show full of action and suspense, but Spooks is far more cerebral and focuses more on character and plot development. In contrast to those who complained that series three wasn't as good as the previous two, I believe that the producers continued (and in fact quite well developed on) the strength of what makes this show so great: likable characters, and strong writing. Series three also had some fantastic shockers that handled very well the shuffling of cast members. Those that have gone will be missed, but have been replaced with characters that will make their departure more palatable. Kudos (no pun intended) to BBC for giving us yet another great show! (Now if only they could figure a way to do a series five of Coupling...)
