Rating: - Too bad it doesn't follow the scriptures!
I love the story of Ruth, but unfortunately this movie is more like a Hollywood fairytale. They make up a strange story of Ruth's childhood and present her as a child sold for service to pagan god temple. They also create their own story of how Naomi's husband and sons were killed. Where do they come up with this stuff? The movie rarely follows scripture. I was terribly disappointed and would NEVER recommend this movie because it is so far from the truth. If it doesn't follow God's word, there's no reason to watch it.
Rating: - Beautiful Movie

Rating: - The Story of Ruth
I have been waiting for a long time for this film to be available on DVD. My favorite Book of the Bible , this clever rendition of the story is beautifully done, surprisingly true to the original story and the actors do a wonderful job.

This film significantly distorts the biblical story of Ruth. It makes up significant history that is not pertinent to the story and it changes the characters relationships and personalities. Ruth is not the same person as in the bible. While the book of Ruth is short and no doubt would require "filling in" in order to make a good movie, this movie is not written to tell the bible story or message, but rather to make a romantic 1960's movie with a female personality model of strength from the 1960's. As such I would strongly not recommend it to anyone hoping to make a part of the bible come alive on film.
Additionally, unlike the Ten Commandments which also took license as with the romantic involvement of Moses, this movie is slow and not very engaging. My children and I who often like to watch "Bible movies" could not even get through this one all the way and kept pressing fastforward to try and get to a good part. When we got to the part when Ruth meets Boaz it was so distorted that we had to give it up.
The acting is resonable for the time period, hence it earns one star.
Don't buy this film UNLESS you don't care that it is nothing like the Biblical Ruth story and enjoy 1960 style movies.
