Rating:  - Mixed feelings. Very mixed feelings.
I would have loved to give this more stars.
I was really looking forward to seeing the DVD, as it was many years since I'd last seen the movie. but the experience was a disappointment.
The Ten Commandments is still a wonderful achievement, and yes, the restoration is wonderful. Visually, it is really stunning - except for the sets that look like sets.
Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner are still marvellous, but Anne Baxter is dreadful; she is so un-Egyptian that it is impossible to take her seriously.
The script might have worked fifty years ago, but now it is so stilted it is just embarrassing. There are some great lines, but it doesn't flow at all.
And de Mille's direction, while it has a magnificent sense of style, is as far from naturalistic as you can get.
Unlike other reviewers, I thought the commentary, apart from a few interesting moments, was awful. And the special features are not that special.
Pehaps the ideal way to see The Ten Commandments would be with the sound turned off and just turned on again for the great Heston and Brynner moments.

This movie is a classic! In my opinion, one of the best movies ever made.

This, I believe, was one of the greatest movies ever made. The cast was superb and the special effects (miracles) were done very well. The older version, 1923, included in the set was a delight to watch. This is one rare movie that would be very difficult to forget.
