Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One of my all-time favorite MGM musicals

I always loved this movie for its story of the life of Jerome Kern and for the beautiful music he wrote. the musical numbers were typical MGM, beautuifully done in beautiful costumes. The quality of the DVD was fabulous!!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Talented stars at their best!
Till the Clouds Roll by is an all-star musical that is similar to "Ziegfeld Follies." (Although I like "Till the Clouds Roll By" better!) It is the biography and music of Jerome Kern (played by Robert Walker).
Judy Garland (who at the time was pregnant with Liza Minnelli)is Marilyn Miller, a Broadway star who gets to sing some of his great songs - "Look For the Silver Lining" and "Who Stole My Heart Away." And, of course, they couldn't do a movie about Jerome Kern without putting some songs from "Show Boat" in it. Kathryn Grayson sings "Make Believe" with Tony Martin (who was Cyd Charisse's husband of 50-something years). Probably the most famous number from this movie would have to be Frank Sinatra's rendition of "Ol' Man River." There's also a great "I Won't Dance" number performed by Van Johnson and Lucille Bremer (who plays Jerome's best friends daughter).

Over all, this is a good movie with LOTS of musical numbers performed by some VERY talented singers!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - This Warner Remastered Edition is the only one to get
Amazon lists some 30-odd different releases of Till the Clouds Roll By, but this newly remastered edition from Warner Home Video (ASIN: B000EBD9SA) is the only version worth buying. The cliche that you get what you pay for is definitely true in this case; all other editions available are ripped from public domain prints of the film, with greatly varying quality in both video and audio.

As other reviewers have pointed out, the 'biopic' story is one of the hokiest that Hollywood ever committed to screen, bearing little resemblance to the life of the real Jerome Kern -- but the great songs just keep coming, and coming.

And this Warner remaster is filled with important extras that you won't want to miss -- other reviewers have listed them in detail so there's no need to repeat them here.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Till the Clouds Roll Bye
I love this movie, this one has great color, the sounds is great. The one I had before was really bad, but I love this movie, it is almost perfect.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - More Stars Than in Heaven
Till the Clouds Roll By is a musical biopic about Jerome Kern (Robert Walker), the musician behind many successful shows like Sally, Sunny, and Showboat. It follows his career with his friend James Hessler (Van Helfin) and Hessler's daughter Sally (Lucille Bremer).

The film plot isn't too exciting, and only a few of the songs have become major standards over the years, like "Ol' Man River" and "A Fine Romance". For most viewers, many of the songs will be unknowns. "Leave it To Jane," "I Won't Dance," and "Cleopatterer" are all fun numbers, but audiences won't find themselves singing along.

The big attraction to this film is the outstanding cast. There are several cameos by major stars like Kathryn Grayson, Judy Garland, Lena Horne, Van Johnson, June Allyson, the Wilde twins, Frank Sinatra, and more. None of their parts are significant, other than hearing them sing (except for Garland who plays Marilyn Miller). Thus, it is difficult to comment on their talents, because only those musical are displayed.

Overall, the movie is interesting as a musical, but not for the story.
