Rating: - What a Wonderful Movie
What a gentle, fresh movie. I was expecting a below average English period movie; I judged that it would be below par because of an uninspiring cover. But I was wrong.
This movie is a refreshing treat. The casting is perfect, the music is lovely and appropriate, from Christmas carol to Church music to ballad sung in the street. The screenplay has just the right touches of humor.
I highly recommend this movie.
Rating: - Under the Greenwood tree
This is a very good video, I liked the story line. It has the right amount of romance and humor. I would have liked to see the video go a little longer. When the video ended, it seemed like there should be a little more, I hated to see it end.
Rating: - Simple and beautiful
I must admit when I first saw the preview for this movie I wasn't so sure about it but I fell in love with it.
Fancy is played perfectly as the educated woman who returns home to begin teaching and playing the church's organ. She is persued by a variety of men and while I won't give away the ending it is truly a satisfying one that doesn't leave you empty-handed.
The costumes are quite simple in this movie compared to other period dramas but it is the storyline that solidly carries this movie through.
If you like movies such as North and South (Richard Armitage) then this one you have to watch - if only to find out how it ends. A personal favourite.
Rating: - The Greenwood Tree...
Sweet and simple little movie... I absolutely love it! Great for anyone who enjoys romantic period films. It's one of those movies that makes you feel all gushy inside- (in a GOOD way!!)
PLUS- the movie is subtitled!! Always a plus in my book.
Rating: - Charming film based on Hardy's 19th Century novel
I first viewed this film on PBS Masterpiece Theatre, and was quite taken with it. As a collector of 19th Century Brit-Lit films and a fan of Thomas Hardy, I could not pass it up, and neither should you if this is your genre. Keeley Hawes, a regular in period British romance/costume dramas, does a great job in her role as Fancy Day, a British schoolteacher who is being pursued by 3 eligible bachelors of varying status in the community. The entire cast does an admirable job, and the film is a very pleasant experience; it will charm you.
