Rating: - Suspend belief & just have fun!
Above average comic book movie. Story was silly but so were most of the movies made in the 30s. This was along the line of the ole Buck Rogers fantacies but with the benefit of state of the art special effects.
The delivery of High Def via Blu-ray was beyond excellent!
Amazon's delivery of this product was excellent!
Rating: - Sky Captain......
Good special effects, a little hard to get into. I'll watch it again before I finalize an opinion.
Rating: - BIG movie!! Lots of extras!!!
Good "homage' to the Sci/Fi movies of the 50's... "Must have" for the serious Sci/Fi movie fan!!!
Rating: - A Classic
For amusement consider the previous reviews of this "near perfect" classic. One reviewer has done his home work....the other sadly, not!! Our cultural history is determined by COOL TYPES...whose memory includes the last thirty or less years and then a complete BLANK!!! "Chitty Chitty Bang! Bang!!" Whaaattt? How about the Max Fleischer Superman cartoons???? Captain Midnight and Icabod Mudd (With TWO D's)!!!? Ivan Shark and his daughter Fury?? Buck Rogers?? Airboy and Birdie???!!! The Blackhawks? The Flying Tigers???? Contrary to the impression of the actor in the Purple Rose of Cairo...our personal memories do not become the Script of the Whole World!!! There is something called Research to Fill in the Blank!!! The film had nothing to do with Jurassic Park (only in the restricted mind does the mention of DNA automatically suggest Jurassic Park.) or Star Wars or anything of the type!!! The film only departed from Classic Status by the banter of the actors designed to make certain the audience knew, "We're not taking this too seriously" (When you are cool, "The World Bores You!!")...destracting the audience from the action and the heroic pursuit of a goal, as Bugs Bunny would say, "Without expectation of recompense neither!!!" Gad! And, I might add, "Popular music did not begin with the Beatles" (in case anyone was wondering...). The film pays homage to the Great Heroes of the 1930's, 40's, and before!!! Did I mention Doc. Savage??? Beyond this, the film is replete with references to lovingly remembered (by us) and vacuously ignored (by them) icons of the earlier Golden Age of Adventure...where there were HEROES (no tongue in cheek, no excuses...just Heroes). In this time of Civilizational Malaise...might we need a HERO or two??
Rating: - It's in black and white but it's enjoyable movie.
