Rating: - Oh, Baltimore!
*Hairspray* is a fun and energetic musical!
Tracy Turnblad is a plump teenager who can sing and dance. Her dream is to land a coveted spot on "The Corny Collins Show". With the help of her best friend, Penny, her dad and Seaweed, she does.
However, she has to constantly fight and maintain her spot because she does not fit the typical mold of a teenager, figure-wise. In addition, she's outspoken about segregation between the Whites and Blacks. The pressure doesn't stop there. She has to compete with Amber Von Tussle and her mother, the "beauty queens".
Once again, wonderful musical surrounding the issues of racism and segregation. Self-esteem too. You'll laugh at John Travolta dragging as Tracy's mother. You'll also be amazed at his performance. And, if you'll pay attention, you'll catch a cameo appearance of Ricki Lake.
If you're a fan of musicals, you'll definitely want to add this to your collection.
Rating:  - Cute giftset & fun movie
I thought I'd give a review of the giftset itself, but a few words on the movie:
Excellent! It's fast paced and fun. Families with tweens/teens can safely view the film. Some inuendo, but very minor. I prefer the original hence four stars, but enjoyed the newer upbeat version. The entire cast from start to finish will have you singing right along.
Now the gift set: First the "Shake & Shimmey" edition is enclosed. Loads of extras to watch and enjoy. The metal locker comes in hot pink or green (mine was pink). It is well constructed and very cute. Has its own padlock & keys. There are several sheets of stickers to decorate your locker featuring the teen stars. Also, the tote bag is made of cloth, not vinyl and features the Hairspray cast. All in all very worth it and cute!
Rating: - Good moive, but slow in the middle
This is a good movie, even if you aren't a fan of musicals. It has a good message, but I think it is a little slow in the middle of the moive.
Rating: - Watch it over and over again
Such a great movie - I've watched it over and over again!
My only gripe would be the lyric track...I was expecting you could watch the whole movie and then the words come up when there's singing.
However you can only watch the singing scenes while using the lyric track special feature.
